Adding Internet Discussions to Broadcast Talk Radio Web Sites.
Recently we were asked to upgrade a live Internet chat room for a talk radio station in California. The station had a small Java chat program that would hold no more than 25 users at a time. They found that a number of their listeners were unable to join in on the online conversation. We provided the station with a chat room capable of handling hundreds of users, with more administrative and user features than their previous chat room.
For the past ten years, Chatmag has offered Moderator Services for Internet discussion boards, and we are extending our services to include fully managed live Internet chat rooms.
Traditional broadcast medium talk radio has been an excellent venue for listeners to become involved, however, the Internet is drawing listeners away at a rapid pace. Those talk radio stations that currently maintain an Internet presence retain listeners, giving them the news and information they need. Internet discussion forums and live chat take that a step further by continuing the conversations well past the end of a talk radio show host’s time allocation.
Sites such as Blogtalkradio.com are drawing listeners away from broadcast media at a fast pace. Blogtalkradio.com began in May of 2006 and combines a talk radio host and live callers with an Internet chat room, blog and forum. It currently holds an Alexa ranking of 16,789. The rise of Internet talk radio sites demonstrates a need for listener participation not being fully met by broadcast talk radio.
The buzz surrounding “Web2.0″ centers on social networking via the Internet. Internet discussion combined with broadcast media talk radio, forms a winning combination by retaining listeners, giving them the opportunity to voice their concerns, questions and opinions. Internet discussion keeps listeners on your site, creating “stickiness”.
Adding a live Internet chat room or forum is a very simple process at the station web site end, by simply adding a link on your site pointing to the Internet chat or forum. The chat room landing page would have the look and feel of your existing site. We offer total management of the chat room or forums, providing the necessary software and administrators, to allow your listeners and host to discuss their particular topic without the bother of being a chat room operator. Or in the case of a forum, working with your staff to configure the forum to your needs.
Your listeners need not download any special software to utilize the Internet chat, it uses Java technology, which is standard in modern Internet browsers. All they need do is click one link, enter a chat nickname, and join in on the conversation.
Please feel free to contact me either by email or by telephone at anytime to discuss your stations web site and needs. I’d be happy to discuss adding Internet chat and discussion services to your station web site, at your convenience.
